Experiments in the creation of leadlight<\/em> and stained glass<\/em> windows. <\/strong><\/h1>\n

\u00a0My favourite stained glass artists are\u00a0Georges Roualt<\/em> and the incomparable Marc Chagall<\/em>. Dream on…<\/p>\n

Everyone must begin somewhere…<\/p>\n

Project front door<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The task: to refurbish the tatty front door at Joe and Em\u2019s place.<\/p>\n

To replace the frosted glass window pane with something which will inject a little light and colour into the hallway.<\/p>\n

Do not despair! The fabulous flying ducks are not on the endangered list \u2013 they will find a new home \u2013 maybe the back door?<\/p>\n

I begin\u00a0the process\u00a0by designing a template over which the glass and lead came will be cut and assembled<\/p>\n

As the assembly progresses it is constrained by horse shoe nails<\/p>\n

soldered and puttied<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

With the glass and came fully assembled, each lead joint is soldered. The whole assembly is then flipped and the joints are soldered again, on the flip side. Putty is meticulously applied along the length of every section of lead came, between lip and glass, a process also repeated for both sides of the window. The glass is buffed with English whiting, and finally the lead is blackened to a deep finish with Stove Polish.<\/p>\n
